It was discovered by [[w:Richard Terrile|Richard Terrile]] in images taken by [[w:Voyager 1|Voyager 1]] images in 1980. Atlas is located near the inner edge of Saturn's A ring, and experiences perturbations by [[Prometheus]] and [[Pandora]].

== Atlas in Orbiter ==
Atlas joined [[Orbiter]] in October 2002 with the release of isaturn.zip. It is too small to have significant gravity, so vessels landed may tend to drift off the surface.
