The glide path is integrated keeping account of lift and drag.  Outside of a planet's atmosphere this data isn't available, so it's approximated from old functions on the frontal surface.

Aerobrake is an MFD for Orbiter that calculates the flight path of a space ship inside a planet's atmosphere.

The MFD was started by Jarmo Nikkanen and was part of Interplanetary MFD. Then Jarmo detached it from the big MFD and release the source code to the community. Gregorio Piccoli taken that code to complete and extend this interesting MFD.
