The Instrument Docking System is the means by which a spacecraft may be easily aligned with the vehicle and port with which it is to be docked. It consists of several components:
- The IDS transmitter associated with the docking port
- The navigational radio in the spacecraft
- The Docking mode of the HUD
- The Docking MFD
IDS transmissions are short-ranged, typically 10km or so.
