Cosfa USF-340 series fighter
General facts
Cosfta USF-340 is a series of small single-engine combat spacecrafts, mostly escort, recoinassance or light attack fighters. The most famous and most used model is the 340A "Stingray" escort fighter.
All the types of the series are able to enter an atmosphere, operate there and also to land on surface. It means, that USF-340 can operate from surface of a planet as well as from ship's hangar. It is known for excellent maneuverability, speed and controllability in atmospheric conditions. However, it is not equipped with FTL drive, so it's operational range is limited by current position of a mother ship or a surface base. It also has no shields, so it relies on it's small dimensions and great abilities in combat.
Service History
Cosfa company has already a long tradition of fighter-types production. The USF-340 is the latest type in service. The prototype of USF-340A was finished in 2157. One year later, the "Stingray" fighters were already in full service across the entire Solar sector. Some of the produced fighters were given to Alpha Centauri system to support local defences. Since the first "Stingray" was commisioned, many more versions have been introduced: USF-340B light attack fighter, USF-340C fighter with different engine or USF-340T unarmed training spacecraft.
After more than 10 years of service the "A" version remains nearly unchanged. The only improvements were made in propulsion and computer systems. Overally, the service history is full of succesful deployments across the Coalition space and even across the Deneroth territory.
