The Madena class battleship is a warship design in service in the Deneroth Imperial Fleet and was introduced in 2156. It is currently the heaviest class of warship in service of the Imperial Fleet. Its design is widely inspired by older types built on Earth. Many design elements are clearly taken from captured coalition warships.
Service history
In early 2150's a new battleship class was ordered by leadership of the Deneroth Empire. The configuration was partially inspired by older Earth's type of battleship, but the planned ship was much more up-to-date. Latest flight systems and weapons anyway couldn't outbalance some of the disadvantages given by ordered specifications. The new ship had to be able of quick production in large numbers. After four years of work the prototype - DEWS Madena was completed and commisioned in 2156. Since then many more ships of the class followed, so now about 50 ships are expected to be in service and probably 6 more in construction. Such a number forced the United Systems Coalition to build a new class of battleship - the Praeon class.
Today the Madena class fatures the core of Deneroth Empire fleet. A group of those ships can become a very dangerous opponent. That's why Madenas usually work in small groups. However, they are also sent one by one on corsair missions deep into the Coalition space.
Design
In bow section of the ship are crew quarters, some of the weapon stations and the navigation systems. In the middle we can find the bridge, communication arrays, the main generator and in the lower section a pair of heavy particle cannons. Behind the generator there's a engineering section with two large propulsion emitters. In the aft section is a pair of emission shields and a two-sectioned hangar for smaller spacecrafts.
Specifications
Length | 969.5m |
Width | 236.0m |
Height | 326.0m |
Number of decks | 18 decks |
Crew | 4000-5000 crewmen |
Prototype finished | 2156 |
Prototype commissioned | 2156 |
Hangar capacity | 8 small spacecrafts |
Armament
- 2x automatic heavy particle cannon
- 18x automatic medium particle cannon (not functional in Orbiter)
Shields
Shields are known to be powered by the central energy generator in central part of the ship, and held together by series of emitters and energetic rails along the entire hull. The main disadvantage of this configuration appears, when the main generator fails, so the hull is not protected from enemy fire anymore.
Known ships of the class
- DEWS Madena
