Yulaco J3 series fighter
Yulaco J3 is a series of small twin-engine single-seat combat spacecrafts, used as basic fighters in Deneroth fleet since 2157. The basic version is the J3A "Jatayu" fighter.
Service History[edit]
In the second half of the 2150's the Deneroth Empire wasn't able to build a fighter, that would be a match for new Coalition types. However there were several captured coalition fighter spacecrafts Cosfa USF-313 "Jedi"(named after a famous sci-fi character from 20th century). The task was clear - to build a "Deneroth Jedi". Captured machines passed through a wide analysis and gained data were used to create the first J3. The three early prototypes were actually re-built USF-313s. The hull was re-built to carry another engine and the cockpit was modified for Deneroth pilots. However, the overall configuration remained the same - a long-nose spacecraft with delta-wing equipped with a pair of weapons and a cabin placed in the rear part of the hull. The serial J3s were given a final version of a smooth and good-looking body.
Coalition USF-313 "Jedis" were decommissioned from the United Systems Fleet eight years ago. They were replaced by Cosfa USF-340 Stingray fighters. But a proper production of the Jatayu fighter lasted less than a year in that moment. In the first moments it seemed, that the Jatayu will be able to withstand even their new opponent. First four years it was no problem, because there was just not enough Stingrays to match the Jatayus. In 2162 the situation changed and Stingray fighters started to be produced in bigger numbers. Time of the Jatayu's dominance was over. In the following years, many modernizations were made, so it's characteristics could be more comparable to the USF-340A Stingray fighter. Of course the Stingray always remained faster and more maneuverable.
The Deneroth commanders obviously rated the Jatayu fighter as fully-comparable with the Stingray, so there has been no reason for them to decommission this fighter yet. As long as the Stingray remains in service, the Jatayu probably remains too. No replacement for the Stingray is in service yet. It is possible, that the Deneroth Empire might exploit this status to introduce it's new modern fighter before the Coalition does.
Design[edit]
Every of the J3 versions is able to fight in the atmosphere as well as in space. They can operate from surface of a planet as well as from ship's hangar. Origins of this type can be found in earlier coalition USF-313 "Jedi" fighter.
